Bolivar Petit Belicoso 2009 Limited Edition Review

, By: John Smith
  • Brand Name: Bolivar
  • Length: 4.9 inches (124 mm)
  • Ring: 52
  • Score: 4/5

Product Introduction

This is the last 2009 limited release from Habanos SA. It's a mini - belicoso, 4.9 inches long with a 52 ring gauge, trying to follow the success of petit vitolas. The tobacco has been aged for at least 2 years.

Appearance

The wrapper is dark chocolate, with traces of glue and heavy veining. It's salty on the lips and has a distinct taste of black pepper. The pre - draw is open and spicy.

Construction

The draw and smoke amount are satisfactory. But the burn has issues. The wrapper is thick, and often needs correction. At the half - point, it's hard to keep lit.

Flavor

  • One third: A mix of powerful woody and spicy flavors with moderate complexity. There's maduro sweetness and the smoke is heavy and a bit dry.
  • Two thirds: Becomes earthier, with soft chocolate notes added. Burn problems occur here.
  • Three thirds: Absolutely full - bodied, earthy, woody with background spice, which is very intense.

Value

It has ageing potential. It's a nice buy for those who like typical Bolivar flavors.

Origin: Cuba. Format: Petit Belicoso. Hand - Made. Price: ~$11 - 13. This cigar has a place in Habanos SA's offering. While the Magnum 48 and Duke are ready to smoke, it's better to wait at least 1 year for this Bolivar.
