- Score: 3.75/5
Origin and Details
The H. Upmann Legacy Toro is from Honduras. It has a Toro format, size 6 x 52. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Sumatra, filler is Nicaraguan and Dominican, and binder is Nicaraguan. It's hand - made and costs about $7 each.
Appearance
The cigar has two bands. It has a rustic look with visible veining and raised seams. The wrapper has an oily sheen, and there are minor flaws at the double cap.
Construction
The wrapper is fragile, cracking when snipped and during smoking. Too much adhesive at the foot band caused wrapper issues. However, the burn is mostly even, the draw is good, and only one minor touch - up was needed past the halfway mark. The ash remains firm.
Flavor
- Pre - light: It has a sweet, almost floral aroma with hints of sweet wood, tea, and natural tobacco. The pre - light draw shows notes of dried figs/dates, tea, sweet cedar, and a touch of spice.
- First third: Lots of silky, creamy, and sweet smoke. Flavors are mainly sweet wood, dried fruit, occasional caramel, and noticeable black pepper. There are also hints of tea and sweet earthy notes.
- Second third: Similar to the first but with less spice and dried fruit, more grassy notes, and occasional mustiness. There are occasional hints of bitterness.
- After halfway: Continues with pleasant sweet notes of dried fruit, sweet cedar, earth, tea, and a caramel aftertaste. No spice in the finish, and the smoke has a silky texture.
- Final third: Thick clouds of smoke with hints of dried fruit, figs, and grassy notes. A little spice returns, and the finish is medium - long and mainly sweet. There are occasional bitter notes.
Value
For less than $7, it offers over an hour and a half of an enjoyable experience, making it a good value.
