Product Introduction

The Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos No. 4 Añejados is a Cuban cigar released in 2015 (available in stores since early 2016) under the Añejados program by Habanos S.A. Cigars in this program are aged for five to eight years in original packaging, then checked, and an additional Añejados band is added. Boxes are stamped with “revisado”.

Appearance

The cigar has a pristine appearance. The wrapper is a rich medium brown with plenty of oil and few faint veins, and it's very smooth. The packaging with the extra band and “revisado” stamp is nice.

Construction

Overall, construction is great. The draw is neither too loose nor too tight, and the burn line is fairly even. However, it burns a bit fast, and the smoking experience lasts less than an hour.

Flavor

  • The cigar has mellow flavors expected from aged tobacco, with notes of natural tobacco, almond, walnut, and hints of sweetness.
  • There is a fair bit of complexity balancing the flavors.

Value

The big complaint is the hefty price. While construction is good and flavors are enjoyable, it's questionable whether it's worth the cost, as it seems like a surcharge for the extra band and stamp.

Origin: Cuba. Format: Corona Extra. Hand - Made. Price: ~$14+ each.
