Review of Juan López Corona Cigar

, By: John Smith
  • Brand Name: Juan López
  • Length: 5.6 inches (142 mm)
  • Ring Gauge: 42
  • Score: 2/5

Product Introduction

The Juan Lopez Corona is a pre - 1960 release and has been discontinued since 2006. It's a hand - made Cuban cigar. The box code of the reviewed one is 2003.

Appearance

Visually, the cigar is good. The wrapper is smooth - looking, a bit rough to the touch, and colorado - colored. The band has an old Havana style.

Construction

The cigar seems well - rolled, with good density and a nice foot. After cutting, the draw is good, slightly tight. The triple cap might have been put on in a rush as 1999 - 2004 were not the best years for Habanos SA's cigar production.

Flavor

  • One third: It opens softly, light to medium - bodied. There's a light mixture of leather and citrus. Half - way through, dashes of cinnamon appear. The ash is a black and white marble, soft and detachable.
  • Two thirds: It goes back to light - medium. There are leather, spices like green and pink pepper. The burn needs frequent corrections, adding a burned taste.
  • Three thirds: It's initially bland, but the last part has a medium body with spices, firewood, and creamy spices.

Value

If the cigar is younger and costs $7 - 8 or less, it might be worth buying for the form. But it has a low flavor/dollar ratio.

There's also a Juan López Seleccion No. 1, a grand corona cigar with a 46 ring gauge and 5 ⅝ inches in length, which smokes for about 40 minutes and offers flavors of wood, leather, earth, and spice.
