General Information

The Montecristo Colección Habanos 2005 commemorated the 70th anniversary of the brand. It's the fifth “volume” of the Habanos Collection Series starting in 2001. In 2005, 500 “books” of 20 were produced.

Appearance

It has a natural color between Claro and Colorado Claro, a very flat sheen, and no perceptible flaws. With a 55 ring, it's large.

Construction

Pre - cut, it looks and feels perfect. It has a consistent draw. The smoke volume starts average and grows in the second half. The burn is superior, with white ash on the wrapper and dark ash on the filler. The ash is loose and comes off every inch or so. It lasted an hour and forty - five minutes.

Flavor

• One third: It opens mild, with light cedar, hay, leather, and a touch of café a lait. There's also a bit of tea an inch in. The pre - light aroma is nearly nonexistent.
• Two thirds: The flavors strengthen, with hay and tea more dominant, and perhaps a hint of black pepper.
• Three thirds: It shows its Montecristo roots, similar to a late - 90s Monte #2.

Overall, it's milder than expected. It has potential for further development but doesn't quite justify the market value.
