General Information
The Montecristo Media Corona is a hand - made cigar from Cuba. It was introduced in 2015 as a standard catalogue item by Habanos, S.A. The vitola is the same as the Herman Upmann Half Corona, but Habanos used 'media' (Spanish for 'half') for the Montecristo version. It comes in a Semi Boîte Nature (SBN) of 25 units.
Draw and Burn
The 44 ring gauge helps avoid the tight - draw issue common in small - format Cubans. It draws more easily and consistently than the 40 ring gauge Montecristo No. 5. The ash is uneven, and it burns slowly, often lasting over 30 minutes even with a relatively rapid puffing pace.
Taste Profile
- Beginning: There are prominent spice notes at the start.
- Middle: Waves of flavours like nuts, honey, and chocolate come in unpredictable surges. Towards the end of the middle third, the flavour may recede or the stick can get slightly harsh, but then the flavour rushes back.
Comparison
Compared to the Herman Upmann Half Corona of the same size, the Montecristo Media Corona is more highly regarded despite being more expensive. Its rival is the Montecristo No 5 Perla, which is about the same price, but the Media Corona's flavour richness is appealing even to those who prefer different ring gauges.
