Origin and Format

The Punch Ninfas are from Cuba, with a format of Slim Panatela. They were discontinued in 2002 and are hand - made. In 2002, the price was roughly $7 per cigar.

Appearance

They have a natural (Colorado Claro) color with a flat sheen and few veins. Box - pressed with hard corners. The ash is generally white and grainy, flakey and less dense. The appearance rating is 3/5.

Construction

Tight but smokeable. Three - quarters of the box were too tight. It has a heavy volume of gray - white smoke. The burn is fairly even but needs relighting if unattended for 1 - 2 minutes. It lasts about an hour. Construction rating is 3.5/5.

Flavor

  • One third: Opens a bit bitter/acrid, dominated by black pepper, leather and earth.
  • Two thirds: After palate - cleansing, leather and earth flavors remain with a strong woody undercurrent. Cedar develops and a hint of cream can be discerned. Black pepper gives way to unidentifiable spices.
  • Three thirds: A bit of must from age. The finish is shorter than expected. Towards the end, it becomes a little bitter again. Flavor rating is 3/5.

As these are discontinued, check the cigar or box for tightness before buying. In 2006, a dress box cost about $200, and single cigars are likely in the $10 - 15 range.
