Review of Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Natural

, By: John Smith
  • Brand Name: Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Natural
  • Length: 4.5" (114mm)
  • Ring Gauge: 50 (20mm)
  • Score: 4/5

Origin and Format

The cigar originates from the Dominican Republic and has a Petit Robusto format. Its size is 4 1/2 x 50, with wrapper, binder, and filler all from the Dominican Republic. It is hand - made.

Nose

The nose has a mixture of cedar and other woods, along with a strong earthy smell.

Construction

The wrapper is a rich brown color with flat smooth veins. It is mottled, not a consistent color. The band is stylish with red and green against gold.

Flavor

  • First Third: The initial draw is dominated by sweet creaminess. After several draws, black pepper appears and then fades. The creaminess and pepper rise and fall in an alternating pattern.
  • Second Third: The pepper and cream from the first third fade, leaving a deep earthy flavor. The pepper returns about halfway through as a highlight.
  • Last Third: The earthy flavor fades quickly, and the spice becomes less prominent. The strongest flavor is toasted nuts.

Burn / Draw

There were no issues from start to finish. The total smoking time was approximately 50 minutes.

Value

It is typically around $80 a box for 20 cigars, about $4 per cigar. While this vitola is a nice smoke, larger vitolas may offer more flavor complexity.

Another cigar in the brand, Queen B, has a length of 5.5" (140mm), a ring gauge of 52 (20mm), and comes 18 per box. Any cigar below 60 is in the 'yardgar' category, between 60 - 74 is for everyday smoking, 75 - 85 is a great smoke, and above 85 is an excellent smoke.
