Product Introduction

The Montecristo Sublime was released in 2008 and is considered one of the most successful Cuban limited editions. It's handmade with all tobacco aged 2 years. The size, first used by Cohiba in 2004 for a limited edition, is both fat (54 ring gauge) and long (6 1/2 inches), suggesting a smoking time of at least 1h30.

Appearance

It has a massive and imposing look, attracting attention. The chocolate, oily wrapper shows dark fermentation spots. It has a pre - light Cubanesque sour smell like the No. 4 Reserva, and meaty peppery and tobacco flavors at the foot.

Construction

Skillfully rolled with a very accurate triple cap. The draw was fine throughout. It burned slowly with a rather straight burn line, needing only one correction, and had a beautiful ash that held for over 2 inches.

Flavor

  • One third: A generous creamy pre - draw with a hint of spice. First pulls are deliciously spicy. Then it produces strong notes of leather, wood and black pepper. One inch in, it becomes medium - bodied with flavors of roasted coffee and nuts. At the end of the first third, it's surprisingly creamy with wood as the main flavor.
  • Two thirds: The power significantly increases and one should avoid smoking too fast to prevent harshness.
  • Three thirds: Profound earthy flavors enter the bouquet. The finish is quite heavy.

Value

Still available at some online retailers. If you like quality medium - to full - bodied Cubans, it's time to stock up as they may not be available for long.

It's fully enjoyable now and will get better with 2 - 3 more years in the humidor. Dimensions are 164 x 21.43 mm, official weight is 16.65g, and it has a standard band C. Price is about $20 each.
