, By: John Smith
  • Brand Name: Por Larranaga - Galanes
  • Length: 4 3⁄4”/120mm
  • Ring Gauge: 52
  • Overall Score: ★★★★

Appearance

The wrapper is nicely tanned, slightly darker than Connecticut, slightly dry with some oil spots and relatively small veins. It has a well - applied triple cap and a perfect rolling look. Appearance Rating: ★★★★★

Construction

The construction is perfect until the halfway point, then the burn becomes very uneven and needs correction a few times. The draw is perfect. Construction Rating: ★★★

Flavour

  • One third: The cold draw is firm and non - harsh, with a base flavour of cereal and accents of dry tobacco. It starts mild and flavourful, with light wood and a milkshake flavor. Rating: ★★★★★
  • Two thirds: Vanilla ice cream emerges at the start of this part. Black pepper appears around the midpoint. There's a mix of bread and vanilla ice cream. Rating: ★★★★★
  • Three thirds: Pepper continues, and there are notes of popcorn, toast and pretzels. The retrohale has a cedar flavour. Rating: ★★★★★

Value

The UK price is around £24, which is reasonable for a Cuban robusto compared to other Cuban brands. Value Rating: ★★★★

It's a delicate - looking cigar with no cracking issue. The first half has better construction. It offers impressive complexity and is reasonably priced. Habanos S.A. may consider it as a budget alternative to top - premium brands.
