General Information

The Por Larranaga Petit Corona is a hand - rolled Cuban cigar. It's a Petit Corona (Mareva) format and one of three readily available in the UK. It costs 10 - 12 GBP in the UK.

Construction

The construction is rustic, giving it a gnarly appearance. The wrapper doesn't come loose, and the cap is solid with several layers. There is surface and internal unevenness. The burn results in a crooked yet robust ash stack, and there are firm areas (plugs) that need pressure to loosen the draw.

Taste

  • Pre - light: It gives off a woody/nutty smell and has a salty lip - touch.
  • First third: Initial draws are harsh with strong chilli notes, then a sweetness develops.
  • Second third: The chilli flavour gives way to a fruity sweetness like dried dates or raisins, and a woody flavour develops. The ash is solid but crooked. The plugs are easier to work as the cigar warms up.
  • Final third: There are no dramatic flavour changes, but the woodiness is enhanced as it warms up.

This cigar can be enjoyed after meals or with various drinks. Beginners should be cautious in the first couple of minutes due to its initial harshness. It offers good value for money as a hand - rolled Cuban from an old manufacturer.
