, By: John Smith
  • Brand Name: El Rey del Mundo NL No. 1
  • Length: 4 1/2 (115 mm)
  • Ring Gauge: 52 (20.64 mm)
  • Score: 3.75/5

Origin and Release

The El Rey del Mundo NL No. 1 is from Cuba and was released in 2011. It's a special regional edition exclusive to the Netherlands. It was bought during a trip to Amsterdam at 12 EUR each.

Appearance

The cigar has a Colorado wrapper in a medium brown color with minimal veins. There are several colorful bands around it, including one showing the price.

Construction

It offers a good draw and burns evenly, meeting the expectations from its appearance.

Flavor

  • Pre - light draw: hay
  • First third: a combination of leather and cream, with some peppery spice and a faint whiff of cocoa
  • Second third: leathery with an earthy backdrop, and a toasty flavor like wheat at the end
  • Final third: mostly bitter, rich, and full cocoa

Value

The cigars are fairly expensive, and buying a box is a significant investment.

Overall, it's a good cigar with a lot of flavor variety and great construction. However, the flavors could be better integrated, and the price is a bit steep. Aging might improve the flavor integration.
