Overview
The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial was first introduced in 2004 as part of Habanos SA Limited Edition series and became a current production cigar in 2008. It's hand - made, with a Gordito format, and originated from Cuba. It's priced at around $14+ each.
Appearance
The cigar wears the classic Hoyo de Monterrey band and a second one indicating its name. It has a dark - brown color, a nice oiliness, and few veins.
Tasting
- First Third: The draw was easy with little resistance and smooth, producing thick smoke. It burnt evenly. The aroma was a light mocha smell, and the flavors were light, with hints of aged green tea leaves and cardamon.
- Second Third: The draw became even smoother. Smoke density remained high. The burn was still great. Flavors shifted to the nutty side, with mocha present in both aroma and flavor. The finish had roasted coffee, almonds, and a sweet note.
The cigar offers about 50 - 60 minutes of a relaxed smoking session. It's less powerful and complex, and can be enjoyed at any time of the day. It's more intense and lasts longer than the Epicure No.2. It's recommended for those who like other Hoyo de Monterrey vitolas.
