, By: John Smith
  • Brand Name: Jose L. Piedra Nacionales
  • Length: Around 4 7/8 inches (134 x 16 mm or 5 1/4 inches)
  • Ring Gauge: 46 (or 42)
  • Score: Overall 3/5

Origin and Price

The Jose L. Piedra Nacionales are from Cuba. They cost about $1 each in Cuba and around $5 each in Canada.

Appearance

These cigars look rough, being veiny, miscoloured, sun - spotted and inconsistent. Most of the sticks have a decent amount of oil on the medium - brown wrapper. The filler is evenly distributed.

Construction

The cigar lights easily and has a good draw. The ash is not strong, needing to be ashed every half - inch. The burn is uneven and needs to be evened out twice. The cigar feels solid, and the wrapper doesn't unroll.

Flavor

  • One third: Earthy flavor
  • Two thirds: Powdered cocoa flavor appears
  • Three thirds: Light floral notes on the finish, and it becomes a bit harsh towards the end

They are medium - bodied and fairly one - dimensional in flavor.

Value

At $5 each in Canada, they are a decent deal. They are very cheap in Cuba. They are a low - risk option to ask someone to bring back from Cuba.

These cigars are great for casual occasions like hanging out with friends at the beach, poker night, or fishing trips. They pair well with many things, especially crafted beer and ale.
