Introduction

The La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 4 is a rare Palmitas vitola cigar. Measuring 152mm by 32 ring gauge, it bucks the trend of thickening Cuban cigars. It's a 2013 aged-in-Cuba 'añejados' edition.

Tasting

The wrapper is pleasing. Pre-draw has caramel and spice notes. After lighting, it offers coffee, nuts, honey, and light spice flavors. The draw is tight, and a cigar - piercing tool can help.

  • One third: Starts with coffee and nuts, then honey and light spice.
  • Two thirds: Cedar is dominant at first, then sweetness with caramel hints returns.
  • Three thirds: Flavors are stronger and richer, including cedar, caramel, honey, light spice, and wood - fire aroma with nuttiness.

The ash doesn't hold well. The aging in the 2013 edition blends flavors nicely. Compared to the Cohiba Exquisitos, it has unique sweet notes but a tighter draw. Super - slender cigars are fading, and La Gloria Cubana is a lesser - known brand at risk.
