Origin and Format

The Montecristo No.4 is hand-rolled in Cuba using Vuelta Abajo tobacco. It comes in the Petit Corona (Mareva) format, priced at around $6 each.

Appearance

The wrapper is Colorado with few veins and no oil or shine. It has an average look, rated 3/5.

Construction

Well-made, a bit firm. The foot seems a little loose, possibly due to transportation. After punching with a tiny cutter, the draw is excellent, rated 4/5.

Flavor

  • 1st third: Produces pungent smoke with a slight grass taste. It has a light - medium body, a sweet taste like salty caramel, ending with a sweet cherry flavor.
  • 2nd third: Sweetness lingers, followed by toast flavors. The body goes from light - medium to medium. The aftertaste is a satisfying sweet - salty caramel, and the burn needs correction, rated 4.5/5.
  • 3rd third: There are mushroom flavors. It slows down to a light - medium body and ends with a cherry flavor, along with a nicotine rush at the end.

Value

It would get 5 stars if every box had such great cigars. Due to inconsistent quality, it's rated 3/5.
