General Information

The Partagas 8 - 9 - 8 is a full - bodied Cuban cigar with a Dalias vitola. It has a Maduro claro coloured wrapper, soft and oily to touch. Originating from Cuba, made in the Lonsdale factory, it's hand - made, weighs 11.86 g, and costs around $15 each.

Appearance

It has a 5 - star presentation. The wrapper is oily with small amounts of plume, not too hard, slightly bumpy, and exhales a sour (barnyard) smell.

Construction

The pre - draw is usually tight, but none of the cigars are plugged. In some cases, the draw can be tighter. A seller mentioned the construction can vary, so it's advisable to open the box before buying if possible.

Flavor

  • One third: The pre - draw is pleasant with spice and butter notes. First puffs are not powerful, but flavors soon become complex with leather and spice notes, and intensity grows.
  • Two thirds: Well - balanced, with earthy flavors dominating. There's also a subtle sweetness similar to cocoa and chocolate.
  • Three thirds: The "sweet spot" is at the start, full - bodied with a rich flavor mix. The finish is good, and a dram of Scotch can complement it.

Value

It's not cheap, but considering its format and a smoking time of around 1 hour 20 minutes, it's not overly expensive.
