Introduction

The Trinidad brand was created in 1969 for diplomatic purposes and released to the public in 1998. It's known for a blend with a slow and balanced development and a creamy texture. The Trinidad Topes Edición Limitada 2016 has a unique Topes vitola and is one of the thickest in the Trinidad family.

Appearance

It wears a dark Maduro wrapper. The oiliness and silkiness of the leaf aren't the best, but considering wrapper shortages, it's acceptable. The wrapper is for aesthetics and doesn't affect the blend.

Construction

The cigar has consistent pressure, is well - constructed, but the airflow was too easy. The burn was inconsistent, and the ash fell apart in the second part. It took 45 minutes to smoke, shorter than a Trinidad Vigia.

Tasting

  • First part: A young cigar with a factory code “TOS” and date stamp “DIC16”. There was a strong fresh ammoniac taste combined with an unusual sweetness in the first 5 - 10 minutes.
  • Middle part: The strength remained medium with high - intensity coconut notes and an incredible aroma like fresh coffee beans.
  • Last part: The texture became creamier. There was an explosion of coffee notes mixed with coconut - like sweetness. The strength remained medium, and the draw became more resistant.

Overall, the Trinidad Topes offers a different experience with an unusual sweetness profile, low smoke density, and a soft palate texture. It's a pleasant cigar, and it will likely evolve over time.
