Origin and Format
The Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Rothschild hails from the Dominican Republic and comes in the Rothschild format. It has a wrapper from Cameroon, a binder from the Dominican Republic, and filler from the Dominican Republic. It's hand - made.
Appearance
The cigar has a dark brown oily wrapper with a semi - pungent smell. The veins are thin, and there are no cuts in the wrapper. The cap is well - applied, with only a small bump above the band being out of place.
Construction
The construction is solid. The thick wrapper helps prevent breaks, and the foot is intact. The filler is slightly uneven. It cuts well, lights easily, has a smooth draw with plenty of smoke, and an even burn. The ash is not very strong, requiring ashing every half - inch.
Flavor
- One third: Cold draw reveals dark chocolate, cocoa, and coffee bean. Immediately after lighting, it has grassy and woody flavors, followed by cocoa and a sweet finish.
- Two thirds: More coffee bean and chocolate flavors emerge, with a hint of the grassy character remaining.
- Three thirds: It becomes more bitter and earthy but still pleasant. It's medium - bodied with complex flavors.
Value
The Rothschild offers good value. It costs about $15 each in Canada and $4 each in the US. While it's out of the everyday price range, it's a fair price for a treat.
Additional Information: SKU is AF - GRAN - ROTH - X1. It's a great choice for a leap day smoke with good balance and complexity.
