Product Introduction

Before the 2013 IPCPR trade show, Camacho Cigars launched the “bold standard” campaign. Camacho Criollo is one of its regular lines, available in seven sizes, and the Corona size is being reviewed here.

Appearance

The cigar has a bright yellow label against a dark brown wrapper. It has black lettering, a minimalist design, and a modern typeface. The scorpion logo is at the bottom. The Honduran Criollo wrapper has visible veins and seams, and it emits scents of nuts, cocoa, and leather from the foot. Appearance rating: 4.5/5.

Construction

The draw is perfect, neither too loose nor too tight. The burn line needed a couple of corrections but was mostly straight. The ash was a bit flaky but hung on for a long time. Construction rating: 4.5/5.

Flavor

  • One third: A strong blast of pepper, with undertones of earth and chocolate, and a faint hint of honey.
  • Two thirds: The honey increases slightly, chocolate fades, and nuts, leather, and earth are faint notes.
  • Three thirds: The strength increases from medium to high. Earthy notes are prominent, and cedar is detected. Some may find the nicotine overpowering.

Flavor rating: 4/5.

Value

A box of 20 costs just over $100, about $5 per stick. Value rating: 5/5.
