Brand Introduction
Bolivar is one of the oldest Cuban brands, founded in the early XX century, named after Simon Bolivar. In the late 1950s, it moved production to the Partagas factory after being sold to Cifuentes y Cia.
Appearance
The wrapper is a mild brown, full of oil pockets. The cigar is neither overly oily nor dry. The band features a portrait of Simon Bolivar in a typical minimalist Cuban style.
Construction
It has a perfect draw, not loose or plugged. The burn line is sharp, and the ash is quite white for a Cuban cigar.
Flavour
- One third: The cold draw is creamy with cinnamon hints. It starts with dry fruit and leather flavours, and the retrohale has a barnyard taste, with a long vanilla aftertaste.
- Two thirds: The sweetness continues, becoming less fruity and more creamy. Vanilla is prominent, and the aftertaste is like fresh - baked bread. Pepper appears on retrohale but is not harsh.
- Three thirds: The sweetness persists, with a nutty note. Pepper remains, and there's an interesting sour and a bit of bitter flavour at the end.
Value
Priced £18 - 19 in the UK, it offers reasonable value considering the flavour complexity.
SKU: BOL - PET - COR - X1, Country of Origin: Cuba. Overall, it's an excellent Cuban cigar, and would likely be even better if aged 7 - 8 years.
