  • Ring Gauge: 54
  • Score: 4.75/5

General Information

The Cohiba Sublimes 2004 was released as part of the 2004 Edición Limitada series. It's from Cuba, hand - made, and no longer in production. The size is 6 1/2 x 54 (164 x 21.43 mm).

Appearance

It has a nice sheen, visible veining, and tight seams. It's a bit rustic and toothy, similar to many Cuban cigars of that era with construction issues.

Construction

It's firm to the touch with plenty of tobacco and no lumpy spots. The draw is good, though the burn needs minor corrections. The ash is firm, and the smoke output is mostly full.

Flavor

  • Pre - light: Offers classic Cohiba earthiness, sweet cedar, hints of cocoa and roasted coffee bean.
  • First third: A mocha mixture of rich coffee, cocoa and roasted coffee bean. There's a touch of pepper, no harshness, and a medium finish with minimal spice.
  • Second third: Reveals more earthiness, grassy and woodsy flavors. There are mild raisin, leather, and the cedar flavor transitions to oak. It remains on the sweeter side.
  • Final third: Complex flavors of chocolate, coffee, sweet earthiness and oak, with no bitterness. There's a slight smoke residue and mild black pepper on the back of the tongue.

Overall, the flavor transitions are complex. Cocoa and espresso notes dominate, balanced with earthiness, wood, slight leather and mocha. It's a bit sweeter than expected, and the smoke stays cool. Aging has mellowed and blended its flavors well.
