Origin and Release
The Fonseca No.4 is a Cuban cigar. It's a corona extra format released in 2010 as the first regional edition for Benelux. Fonseca is a Cuban brand with only four sizes in current production.
Appearance
All Fonseca cigars are wrapped in thin rice paper with bands on top. After removing the paper, the wrapper is oily, flawless, and shines in sunlight. It has very thin veins, two long ones running the length. It's soft to touch and compact.
Construction
Cutting the cap with a guillotine was easy. The draw was excellent at all times, and the burn line was stable, resulting in a sturdy light - gray ash. It produced a good amount of thick white smoke.
Flavor
- One third: There's a decent amount of spice with a solid woody background. The smoke is round. It's medium - bodied from the start.
- Two thirds: Wood, a hint of spice that persists after an initial burst, and some roasted coffee flavors are present.
- Three thirds: The flavors remain consistent while the strength increases a little.
Value
Unlike many regional editions, it doesn't have a price tag over $15. With good construction, flavors, and looks, it offers decent value.
The price is 215 € for a box of 25. Thanks to Frédéric from La Casa del Habano Knokke for sending the cigars for review. The author, who was previously unimpressed with Fonseca's KDT Cadetes, was pleasantly surprised by this release and plans to review Fonseca Delicias soon.
