Alec Bradley Nica Puro Cigar Review

, By: John Smith
  • Brand: Alec Bradley - Nica Puro
  • Length: 6.2 inches
  • Ring Gauge: 60
  • Score: 4.3/5

Origin and Basics

The Alec Bradley Nica Puro is a hand - made cigar from Nicaragua. It comes in a Gordo format, with a box count of 20. The wrapper, filler, and binder are all Nicaraguan. Each cigar costs around $8.50.

Appearance

With a 60 ring gauge, it's large and barely fit in a guillotine cutter. It's 6.2 inches long and heavy. The wrapper has visible veining, tight seams, a dark - brown color with a sheen and some reddish spots, and a stylish band.

Construction

The cap application looks a bit sloppy. The cigar is firm with some lumpy sections, but the burn is even. It needed double puffs at the start with muted smoke output, but the draw improved in the second third. The ash is firm and holds for over 2 inches.

Flavor

  • Pre - light: Aroma is barnyard, rich tobacco, sweet cedar, and a hint of citrus. Draw has leather, coffee, sweetness, spice, and a mild citrus hint.
  • First third: Toasted nuttiness, sweet oak, leather, creaminess, and spice on the finish.
  • Second third: Sweet woodsy flavors, dried fruit, leather, nuttiness, roasted coffee, and occasional chocolate notes.
  • After halfway: More chocolaty, with earthiness and nuttiness. Draw opens up, smoke thickens.
  • Final third: Dark chocolate, roasted coffee, toasted caramel. Spice fades, finish becomes bitter, flavors become more muted.

The strength is medium, and the body is medium - to - full, becoming more medium - bodied in the second half. The value is decent for a 90 - minute smoke, but the author thinks the company could reduce costs by cutting glitzy packaging and advertising. Overall, it's an enjoyable cigar, though the author won't smoke the Gordo size again.
