General Information

This corona cigar from the Dominican Republic, made in 2001, has a wrapper, binder, and filler all from the Dominican Republic. It's hand - made and priced between $11 - $12. It has a med - strong nicotine intensity and limited availability.

Appearance

There is a large amount of plume covering the cigar, the cellophane is extremely yellowed, and the band has black that has bled and faded. The wrapper is veiny with noticeable seams and much discoloration. It smells like a cinnamon breakfast muffin, and the foot smells of black, loose tea leaves. The dry draw is salty, savory, herbal, and potpourri - ish.

Construction

The cigar has a double cap, tight seams, and a loose bunch. The dry draw allows perfect air passage. After lighting, smoke production is large, but there is a burn problem with a small part not burning properly.

Flavor

  • One third: First puffs have pepper, then nuts and a little leather. After an inch, flavors transition to woodiness and dry cracker notes. Near the end of the first third, it tastes like green vegetables.
  • Two thirds: As it reaches the halfway point, flavors drop off, leaving light woodiness and a finish like water vapor.
  • Three thirds: Flavors drop off severely, with only tasteless smoke and a mineral water finish.

Lighting the cigar was difficult, and the aftertaste is a bit dirty. The smoke is smooth but the overall flavor experience is lackluster.
