  • Length: 7 inches

  • Score: 4.5/5

Product Introduction

The Buena Vista cigars are hand - made. They use 100% Cuban seeds, with tobacco grown in a valley in Ecuador that mimics Cuba's Pinar del Rio region. The production is overseen by Cuban tobacco professionals, and the rollers are Cubans trained in Havana's factories. There are two blends: Edicion Limitada 2008 (Ecuadorian puro) and Reserva (Ecuadorian and Dominican blend), with 9 different vitolas.

Appearance

The EL 2008 has a sueded, matte - like reddish - brown wrapper with little oil. It has small, suture - like veins, tight seams, and a perfect silhouette, and 4 caps. The wrapper has almost no smell, and the foot has a soapy smell.

Construction

After cutting, dry draws were firm. But once lit, the draw was fine, and the burn was good. The long Prominentes needed only 1 touch - up, and the Short Churchill needed none. The salt - and - pepper ash holds for 2 - 3 inches.

Flavor

  • First third: Marzipan, sweet hay, vanilla, a touch of leather, and a citrus - like twang. It has a medium - minus body.
  • Second third: Transitions to a creamy nut and cedar flavor.
  • Last third: Body becomes a solid medium. Flavors include chocolate, graham, creamy nuttiness, and finishes with a waxy/marzipan/butter flavor.

Value

The Prominentes costs around $16, and the Short Churchill around $10. It's expensive, but it's a super - premium cigar with good balance.

The cigars are packaged in bright red, felt - bottomed boxes made by the same makers as Cohiba's Behike boxes. Jack Schwartz is one place to find them. They are suitable for those who like medium - bodied Cuban smokes and can be a great morning coffee smoke.
