Origin and Release
Brickhouse cigars were released at the 2009 IPCPR show in New Orleans. Originally introduced by the J.C. Newman Company in 1937, it's a Nicaraguan puro with a Havana Subido wrapper from Esteli. It comes in four vitolas, and the Churchill is featured here.
Appearance
The Havana Subido wrapper has a mahogany - red color with visible veins. It has oil on it, making it silky and smooth. There is only one cap.
Construction
Well - constructed, no soft spots and very firm. The only issue was a tight pre - light draw. The band can be easily removed.
Flavor
- Wrapper smell: Floral with hints of hay
- Foot smell: Sweet, like molasses or honey
- Pre - light draw: Spicy with a note of nutmeg
- First half: Nutty and cedar taste with a slightly peppery retrohale
- Second half: Nuttier and sweet
- End: Sweet notes disappear, nutty notes are dominant
Value
At less than $5.00 per cigar, it offers good construction and a decent flavor profile.
Additional Information
Box contains 25 cigars. Wrapper is Habano, not flavored. Price is ~$115 for a box of 25. It recently received a 91 rating from Cigar Aficionado. The flavors were steady during the smoke, not very complex, but it has a beautiful sheen.
