General Information
The Camacho Liberty 2009 was released in July 2009, with only 40,000 made. Its origin is Honduras. The filler and binder are grown in Eiroa’s farm in Jamastran, Honduras. It's hand - made, and the price is $100 for 5 cigars.
Appearance
The cigar is semi - dark chocolate in color, dull in look but soft to touch. It comes in a wooden coffin, each numbered (e.g., 27,143 out of 40,000) and individually wrapped in tissue paper. It has two bands, one at the foot with “Liberty 2009”, a crown and red “C” logo, and a larger, elaborate band at the head with red, black, gold, and white colors and other designs.
Construction
It has 2.5 veins running its length and may be double - capped or triple - capped. There's a soft spot in the middle but it feels firm. The draw is easy pre - light and during smoke. It burns evenly in the first third, then has a canoeing effect. The ash is light grey, a bit loose despite the tight pack. The smoke is abundant and dissipates quickly.
Flavor
- Pre - light: Raisins and a hint of sweet spices are tasted, with a light spice on the tongue.
- First draw: Roasted nuts and coffee flavors, and some woody (oak) notes on retrohale.
- Second half: Oak and coffee notes become more pronounced and balanced. It starts as full - strength and then mellows.
Value
It's an expensive “special occasion” cigar. While the flavor profile adds value, for about $20 per cigar, one might expect better construction.
Comparing different releases of the Liberty brand can be an interesting exercise. Those who can find the 2009 release should try it and compare with future releases.
