Product Introduction
Charatan is a British brand founded in 1863 as a pipe brand. It was later acquired by Dunhill Tobacco of London and launched pipe tobaccos. In the early 21st century, Charatan cigars entered the market, blended for British smokers. Two years ago, Tor Imports acquired the brand, moved production to Joya de Nicaragua, and tweaked the blend. The Charatan Colina is a yearly limited - production Nicaraguan puro.
Appearance
The wrapper is a dark Colorado Maduro color with beautiful smudges. The ring is white with golden dots, similar to a Davidoff ring. The logo has a unicorn. The triple cap is gorgeous, and the cigar feels well - constructed.
Taste
- One third: Earthy, spicy with a little salt, herbal flavors, a bit of coffee and soil, some grass and sweetness in retrohale.
- Two thirds: Develops spice flavors like nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, with earthiness, leather, and pepper. Sweetness becomes stronger with citrus sourness and a slight nuttiness, also dry flavors like hay and dried wood.
- Three thirds: Starts sweet like liquid sugar, evolving to marzipan, with nuts, spices, pepper, leather, and wood.
Smoking Experience
The cold draw is great. The draw remains good during smoking. The ash is like a stack of white and gray dimes. The smoke is blueish, decent in volume and thickness. The burn is quite straight and slow. The smoke time is three hours.
