Brand Background
Casa Turrent are second - generation family tobacco growers in Mexico and currently the biggest producers in the country. The 1880 is one of their newest and core lines.
Appearance
The Casa Turrent 1880 Maduro has a dark espresso - coloured wrapper with minimalistic veins and is smooth to the touch. It has an aroma of earth and leather, and the wrapper is not very oily.
Construction
Overall, the construction is good with very few touch - ups. There is a good draw line most of the time, though the draw is a bit loose. It produces a large amount of smoke.
Flavour
- One third: Cold draws bring a strong flavour of creamy oak and general sweetness. It starts with solid creamy oak mixed with full - flavoured coffee nibs and earth, and retrohale brings a bit of black pepper.
- Two thirds: Black pepper is more prominent, perfectly combined with chocolate, creamy oak. Espresso beans are still present but less prominent. Retrohale adds floral notes.
- Three thirds: Similar to the previous part, with a bit of barnyard and tea leaves flavour.
Value
The price of this cigar in the UK is currently £16.49, which is a good price for a lancero.
The cigar looks interesting, dark with a nice white and red band. It's a linear blend, and the retrohale has some sweetness not usually found in other vitolas. It has good construction and produces a lot of smoke.
