Product Introduction

The Casa Magna Dominican Corona is a hand - made Dominican puro recently added to the Casa Magna line. It's available on Cigars International and affiliates, aiming to appeal to a broader international market. It comes in five sizes, and the corona size was tried here.

Appearance

It has a medium reddish - brown rustic wrapper with prominent veins and plenty of oil. There are spots with obvious tooth, but most of the wrapper is smooth to the touch.

Construction

The burn is pretty even. However, the draw had issues. It was a bit tight, and in the middle third, the tobacco was plugged up. After clearing it, the draw returned to normal.

Flavor

  • One third: A hard explosion of red pepper at the start, followed by a combination of oak, coffee with an earthy backdrop, and hints of creamy sweetness.
  • Two thirds: The red pepper makes a strong comeback, joined by creamy honey and caramel, along with cocoa, cinnamon and hay.
  • Three thirds: The flavor changeup seems somewhat random, but the earth and oak backdrop gives some consistency.

Value

The plug issue and the randomness of the flavor profile impact its value. It is priced around $7 each, but it would be better if sold for $5 - $6.
