Origin and Acquisition
The Opus X Lost City Lancero is from the Dominican Republic. The writer won a box of ten in a memorial raffle hosted by Cigar Pass. The win also included a free DVD of the cigars’ namesake movie.
Appearance
The band has black, gold and red embossing with a bold “X”. The cigar has a burnt grass - hued barrel with veins that aren't raised. The wrapper is slightly wrinkly in some areas with glue residue above the band. The cap starts ½ inch from the head.
Taste and Smoking Experience
- First Half: Prelight smell is barnyard with white pepper, flavors are creamy earth and grass. After lighting, there's creamy smoke with a peppery tingle and a smooth profile like soft warm bread. The draw is good and the burn is sharp. The flavor gets a bit stale around 2 inches but ashing helps.
- Second Half: It takes on a strong spice and nicotine has more impact. The main flavor is sweet grass with a smoky campfire undertone. The writer needed a sweet drink to combat the nicotine.
Overall Rating
The cigar has an appearance rating of 3.5/5, construction 3.5/5, flavor 3/5, value 2/5, and an overall rating of 3/5. The writer plans to let the remaining cigars rest, hoping the spice and nicotine will mellow.
Price is around $30 each. It's hand - made, with wrapper, binder, and filler all from the Dominican Republic.
