Origin and General Information
The Fuente Fuente Opus X cigars originate from the Dominican Republic. They are hand - made, with Dominican filler, binder, and a shade - grown Dominican Rosado wrapper. They come in various formats like Belicoso, and there are different blends in the line - up. Fans often nickname them, such as “Power Ranger”, “Triple X”, or “X3”. The MSRP is $10.50, but due to high demand and limited supply, most vendors sell them for over $20 each.
Appearance
The cigar is adorned with a large, elaborate Opus X band and a red ribbon around the foot. The wrapper has no visible seams and an oily texture. It has a flawless presentation with no soft spots.
Construction
The draw is a bit loose, and the ash is flaky, often falling off after about 1 inch. The burn needed correction on both samples, and both required re - lights past the halfway mark.
Flavor
- One third: Immediately on lighting, there's a strong cayenne - like spice that masks other flavors. It causes a “cotton mouth” sensation and gives a strong nicotine buzz. As the first third ends, hints of toasted nuts, vanilla, and honey - like sweetness start to appear.
- Two thirds: The spice intensity decreases but still comes and goes. A pleasant saltiness enters the flavor profile, and woodsy and earthy flavors become more pronounced.
- Three thirds: There's more detectable sweetness, but the spice becomes overwhelming again, masking other flavors. The cigar is strong, leaving a nicotine buzz.
Value
Despite the MSRP of $10.50, they are usually sold for much higher prices, up to $46 per stick. Considering the price, the cigar is a disappointment as one would expect better quality for the cost.
