Origin and Features
The Opus X is from the Dominican Republic. It has a Short Belicoso format, a Chateau de la Fuente Rosado wrapper, Dominican filler and binder, and is hand - made. It costs $19 each.
Wrapper and Name Origin
Before the Fuentes, no one had successfully grown wrapper tobacco in the Dominican Republic. The wrapper is grown in limited quantities on their Chateau de la Fuente farm. The name comes from “Project X”, and “Opus” describes the unique wrapper.
Popularity and Sizes
Due to limited production and much hype, it's highly sought after. It comes in 12 basic sizes like Belicoso xXx (4.625 x 49), Perfecxion No. 5 (4.875 x 40) etc.
Taste of Opus xXx
- First part: Starts with a lot of spice and pepper.
- Middle part: After about an inch, there's a slight sweetness.
- Overall: Delivers a mix of leather, earth, nuts, and coffee. It seems medium - bodied at first but is more full - bodied as you smoke.
The construction is excellent, with perfect burn and draw. The ash holds tight, and it burns slow and cool. It takes about an hour to smoke the Opus xXx despite its short length.
