Product Introduction

Origin and Format

The AVO 86th Anniversary Cigar, “La Trompeta”, is a Limited Edition from the Dominican Republic. It has a Diadema format, size 6.5 x 54.

Wrapper, Filler, and Binder

The wrapper is Ecuadorian Sun Grown, the filler is a mix of Dominican and Peruvian tobacco, and the binder is Dominican Piloto. It's hand - made and costs about $15 each.

Appearance

The wrapper leaf has three small circular cut - outs like trumpet keys. It comes in a dark brown lacquered container. There are two bands on the cigar. A few large veins are prominent on the brown wrapper. Rating: 5/5.

Construction

Overall construction is strong with a great draw. But there were burn issues, needing multiple touch - ups to keep the burn even. Rating: 4/5.

Flavor

  • One third: Starts with hay and pepper notes, then sweetness emerges, and coffee becomes more predominant.
  • Two thirds: Cedar notes emerge from the sweetness.
  • Three thirds: Hay and spice are in the backdrop, coffee fades, and butterscotch stands out. Eventually, flavors merge into a balanced blend. Rating: 4.5/5.

Value

Great in terms of flavors, but burn issues and high price are a concern. Rating: 3/5.
